Coral 8.2, Trace Elements, is here.

Coral 8.2: Trace Elements

Hailed by critics as "the world's best reefkeeping magazine," CORAL is written by leading aquarium experts and marine biologists, lavishly illustrated with breathtaking images, and filled with inspiration for aquarists.

News.

The new Wave Surfer from Sicce is designed to simulate marine currents in the home aquarium. Easy to program, it has been designed to offer numerous features without complicated computers or power controllers. When used with aquarium pumps, the Wave Surfer allows the creation of multiple currents from different directions within the tank. Its controls make it simple to regulate the timing of the pumps connected to it. Customization is possible by setting switching intervals, Feeding Mode, and Night Mode, depending on needs of the ecosystem being created. How long pumps stay turned off during the feeding of the aquarium’s inhabitants and how much water movement is reduced during night cycles are controlled by these settings. The Wave Surfer is the perfect compliment to SICCE Voyager and Syncra pumps, but it can also be used with any make of recirculation or stream pumps, up to 100 watts for each
outlet. The Wave Surfer on its own has a RRP of £66.60

To celebrate the launch of the new SICCE Wave Surfer, UK Authorised SICCE Stockists are currently offering special combos of Wave Surfer and Voyager pumps, saving you up to 25% off the full retail price if bought separately!

 Freshwater Corner!

Given our increasing range of products suitable for freshwater aquaria, there is a new area online entitled Freshwater Corner. Here you can find products suitable for both indoor aquaria, and outdoor ponds and gardens. If you are into ponds take a look at the Happy Pond range, the unique “Instant Pond in a Box” and the Green Reset range of external pond filters. For freshwater aquaria, in addition to DrTim’s range of bacterial products for fish-free cycling, we also have CO2 Life from SICCE for planted aquaria, plus our new aquarium plant collections.

Without a doubt, the finest range of bacterial products available for the aquarium. Dr. Timothy A. Hovanec, the founder of DrTim's Aquatics, is considered one of the World's premier authorities on nitrifying bacteria in closed aquatic life-support systems.

Reef Scientific Calanoid Copepods  The highest quality frozen natural marine zooplankton available anywhere! Suitable for all saltwater and freshwater fish, corals, and crustaceans.

High Nutritional Value! High in protein, in omega3, Phospholipids, DHA & EPA, and Astaxanthin. Although other companies market the calanoid copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, the nutritional quality of these is poor owing to the presence of autolytic enzymes that degrade fatty acids and proteins after freezing. With Reef Scientific Calanoid Copepods, these autolytic enzymes have been deactivated, consequently extending the storage time of the food from as little as one month to in excess of a year with no loss of nutritional value!

Non-polluting! 100% clean. Needs no pre-rinsing before use. The product is pasteurized for bio-security and sealed, using natural components from crustaceans, minimizing nutrient leakage in the reef aquarium. Can be thawed and kept in the refrigerator for up to 14 days. RRP £10.20

The Reef Scientific media Range (RS Carbon, Reef Scientific Phosphate Remover and Reef Scientific RS Reactor Mix) along with the Reef Scientific Ozoniser have all been favourably reviewed on Reef Builders, the influential US blog, since we exhibited at Interzoo.

RS Carbon and Reef Scientific Phosphate Remover are both virtually dust free products reducing the need for rinsing before use and the consequential loss of media to waste. The small diameter of these pelletised media gives a high surface area and is well suited to fluidisation.

RS Reactor Mix is a mixed media comprising RS Carbon and RS Phosphate Media, ideal for use in nano reefs where there may not be enough room to accommodate the media separately.

The UK made Reef Scientific Ozoniser features a built in 365 day digital timer so that it can be run for timed periods over the course of the day as an alternative to the more expensive, and often inaccurate, method of using a redox controller. The unit is splash resistant to IP55. Call for more details.

The First Reef Aquarium Training Course for Retailers took place in March. We hope to run another course later in the year and, given the success of the course, Tim has been asked to prepare a course for hobbyists. More on this later in the year.

Product News.

MarinePure bio-filtration material, previously known as ReefresH2O, is now back in stock. The extremely high surface area of this media is 10-100 times that of any other biofilter media, analogous to the structure of live rock, it allows aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to grow in and around the material. Interconnected pores, from sub-micron size to 500 microns, allow water to flow freely through the material, delivering water and nutrients to the biofilms. Use DrTim’s One and Only to bring your MarinePure to life!

Our live food, Reef Scientific, Optimal Nutrition Live Zooplankton, is proving very popular. A mix of Brachionus plicatilis (Rotifers) and Tigriopsis Japonicus (Copepods), intended as starter culture for reef aquarium use, it can be cultured outside of the aquarium or used to seed a refugium. It gives you a wide range of live particle sizes, from c10 – 2500 µm. Grown and enriched with DT's phytoplankton for an optimal nutritional profile, this product is a source of Carotenoids, Sterols, Omega-3’s & Omega-6’s, Essential Amino Acids and Proteins. A live product containing no artificial preservatives or additives.

For those using Poly Filters, it’s worth taking a look at PURA pads, these are about twice the area of a regular Poly Filter for around the same price. Independently tested against others on the market, the results indicate that the PURA pad out competes the others both in quantity of pollutant removed and the speed of removal. Another one for the Cost Conscious Reefkeeper!

Also from Pura is NitrateLock, a selective ion exchange resin for Nitrate removal. NitrateLock rapidly removes and maintains extremely low to non-measurable levels of nitrates in fresh and salt-water aquariums. Long lasting, this can be safely regenerated 100's of times with the use of a brine solution.

However you choose to do it, whether with MarinePure, DrTim’s or with NitrateLock, Midland Reefs has the solution to all your filtration problems!!!

With DT’s live Phyto, oyster eggs, DT’s live Copepods, PE Mysis, Cyclop-Eeze FreezerBar, and Reef Scientific Live Zooplankton, I’m confident in saying that Midland Reefs has one of, if not, the best, nutritional ranges available for the reef aquarium hobby.

All free from artificial preservatives and additives!!
